Theory classes that underlie Wholeness in Twelve. They present the roots of our wholeness of being through the details of our amazing design in relationship to the planet. Describing how met-patterns can anchor us to our healthy self, healthy perspectives to how developmental movement supports integration of our being and re-patterning our history. We have theory on the hour. This week will be Why we use "luxuriating" rather than stretching or What is flexibility? Does it matter?
There is a hilarious and fabulous book about the Saint John's University Football coach John Gagliardi. He has the record for the college coach with the most wins and also players with the least injuries among other things. It is basically and anti-coaching book. The book is No-How Coaching.
His calisthenics were for example, do one, yes one jumping jack. The writer goes on: Next might be a Nice Day drill…It’s also called the Beautiful Day drill. Here’s how it’s done on a crisp, blue-sky fall afternoon, on the field surrounded by oak, elm, birch and towering pine trees on the Saint John’s campus. In football practice gear, the young men drop to the ground, lie on their backs, and stretch out on the field. They stare up at the relaxing blue Minnesota sky and take in the warmth of the fall sun for a few minutes. And they turn their heads to players next to them and greet each other with an enthusiastic, “NICE DAY!” OR “BEAUTIFUL DAY!”
Here are some of his rules: No athletic scholarships No rules except the Golden Rule. No staff meetings No player meetings No denying responsibility for your own actions No blaming anyone else for your or their mistakes NO practice Sunday or Monday No long practices No tackling!!!!! No laps No wind sprints No Trash talk No dwelling on bad things No meetings No traditional captains. All seniors rotate the honor. No not being inflexible and it goes on and on with absolutely opposite traditional coaching attitude and strategy - they won, they graduated, the cared for each other. ( I know because one of the players gave me the book saying our work reminded him Gagliardi's approach. That was a high complement.
