Wholeness in Motion • Patterns of Nature
Babette Lightner, RSME

WIM supports people in experiencing and appreciating the dynamic, uncertain  brilliance of being alive. Through movement, embodied anatomy, inquiry, and the patterns of nature, we open pathways into wholeness, not as a final goal, but as a way of living that awakens awe, gratitude, and a deeper sense of belonging in this wild, horrific, and beautiful world.

Explore various paths within WIM, like braids woven together:
One common thread is a desire to free oneself from struggle:
  • Pain—physical or emotional
  • Enhance and hasten healthy recovery from injury or surgery
  • Aging with grace, fluidity, integrity, and joy—regardless of life's restrictions.
  • Change unwanted habits or patterns in posture, movement, or thought and feeling
Another thread is a longing to feel more connected with Nature and to heal from a long lineage of disconnection from the vibrant, animate Earth. This thread is about:
  • Belonging
  • Inter-being
  • Knowing one's place in the vast Universe
Our third thread: Leaders, educators, movement, and music practitioners engage in WIM to deepen their approach, gaining greater facility in:
  • Guiding through an exploratory process that invites discovery and awareness in learners
  • Creating 'physicalization'—making tangible the abstract or conceptual through embodied practices
We have developed a pedagogy for this kind of embodied leadership and education.

Another thread: Inhabiting your body beyond skeletal and muscular movement, to include, access, and nourish—and be nourished by—your spiraling, limbed Heart; your rich, lubricating, insulating fat; your woven web of connective tissue; your intelligent inner ocean of the extracellular matrix; the breath of cells—and so much more.
You need look no further than yourself to see a miracle every day.

Finally: As your wholeness work unfolds, the Patterns of Nature weave these threads into a tapestry of clarity, curiosity, practices, and awe—something you can wrap yourself in for a lifetime. There is a community here, supporting your journey.

I welcome you to experience WIM on your own terms. I am now offering a course I created for the Center for Sound Music Education (CSME) for free. While there is a slight emphasis on musicians, the content is easily translatable to other interests. I also direct you to the Resources tab, which has several drop-downs, all of which are free videos to explore WIM.

I  acknowledge and deeply thank the wholeness wisdom holders around the globe whose cultures never lost their kinship with all beings and the clarity that humans are part of the Earth. I honor the many people whose courage and tenacity let them retain their wholeness worldviews & languages despite attempts to destroy them and their culture. As someone indigenous to the planet, a colonizer in my landscape, and birthed into a white Anglo Saxon protestant worldview, wholeness is something that comes to me as discovery, as new and enlivening.
