Why We're Beginning Again In mid-August, I sat with a question in the pre-dawn quiet: What have the Patterns of Nature actually shown us, all these years?
Four lessons kept surfacing
Interconnection. Dancing with the Patterns lifts the veil on how woven-in we already are — to nature, to each other, to a world that's alive.
Exploration. Following the thread of a question, listening to your own experience, and doing this in community immerses you in experimentation as a foundation for learning, for life. You live the tools for experiments in living — meeting a hard moment with curiosity instead of fixing: What's regenerative here? What can I stay with, just as it is? How is this informative?
Embodiment. Not just moving the body, but inhabiting it — tissue, bone, breath — until you notice your blood and the rivers outside aren't so different after all. No rush. Just the slow spiral of coming home to being alive.
Consciousness as choice. Each Pattern is its own way of meeting the world — allowing, rooting, spiraling, pausing. Moving through them reminds you that how you meet today is something you get to choose.
What's Different This Season
Thirty years in, it's time to let the form fall away and start again — not from nothing, but from everything we've learned, held loosely. This fall, 13 revised Patterns are emerging: familiar in feeling, fresh in possibility.
And I'm making a change I've been circling for a while -- saying less, so there's more room for you to discover. For years, this practice has mostly sounded like "come explore alongside me while I tell you what I'm finding." This season, I want us actually living the questions together — not just watching me live them.
That might look like ten quiet minutes with a single question:
What is aliveness? How do I know I'm alive? Where do I feel it — in myself, in the grass, in the tree, in the rock?
Some of you will dance it. Some will draw it, write it, sit with it in silence. However you find your way in, there's space for it.
Tuesdays will hold this spacious, exploratory shape — ideal if you're new to WIM.
Fridays stretch a little longer, with more time to work Nature, the developmental threads, physicality, consciousness (frameworks), and other foundations underneath the Patterns.
Come As You Are — However New or Long-Time Whether you've danced these Patterns for years or you're curious and brand new, there's a place for you this fall. Bring your messy self and your curiosity. That's really all this asks of you.
What might Nature show you if you give time and space to listen? What might you offer to the world from the time and space?
